Washington, DC-based outfit Fugazi is a post hardcore band that was formed in 1987 by former Rights of Spring lead singer Guy Picciotto and former Minor Threat front-man Ian MacKaye. The two vocalists, who have since shared singing duties, were joined by drummer Brendan Canty and bassist Joe Lally to complete the band's lineup. Rejecting music industry standards, the band's has remained self-managed and has released its music exclusively on the independent label, Dischord Records, since its 1988 self-titled EP. Over two decades and a handful of studio albums later, including 2001's The Argument, Fugazi has maintained its DIY ethic as well as its post hardcore, punk sound. In 2003, the band announced an indefinite hiatus.
