The quartet Fourplay is a contemporary jazz band that was formed in 1991. The band's R&B and pop flavored jazz has made Fourplay successful both commercially and creatively since its self-titled debut was released in 1991, which held the number on spot for 33 weeks on Billboards Contemporary Jazz Chart. The band's original line-up has only made replacements of the guitarist, keeping the core group of Bob James on keyboards, Nathan East on bass and Harvey Mason on drums in tact. The band members were recognized as distinguished contributors to the music industry upon receiving the Congressional Record from the United States House of Representatives. Twelve albums deep, including the 2010 release Let's Touch the Sky, Fourplay continues to break grounds in jazz sub-genres, exploring new ways of compositions and playing styles while still appealing to mainstream jazz fans.
