The Charlatans is an alternative rock band from England (not to be confused with the American band of the same name that split in 1970). The group was formed in 1988 by Martin Blunt, Baz Ketley and Jon Brookes in Birmingham. The band highly profited from the "Madchester" movement, a musical invasion of indie rock bands combining electronics with psychedelic influences such as The Stone Roses, New Order, Primal Scream, and Happy Mondays. The Charlatans’ first single, Indian Rope, was released in 1990. The group has since toured with mega bands like Rolling Stones, The Police, and The Who.
