DJ Rekha is a pioneering DJ, producer, curator, and activist who has been at the forefront of the global Bhangra music scene for over two decades. Born in London and raised in New York, Rekha has been credited with introducing Bhangra to the US and has been instrumental in creating a global audience for the genre. Rekha has released two albums, DJ Rekha Presents Basement Bhangra (2005) and DJ Rekha Presents Bhangra and Beyond (2008), and has collaborated with a variety of artists, including MIA, Jay-Z, and Wyclef Jean. Rekha has also curated events and festivals, including the annual Basement Bhangra party in New York City, which has been running since 1998. Rekha is a passionate advocate for South Asian culture and has been recognized for her work with a number of awards, including the South Asian Excellence Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music.
