Formed in early 1974 Cameo is a soul/funk group known for its dance floor hits of the 1970s and 1980s. The band released its debut album Cardiac Arrest in 1977 and broke into the mainstream with its 1980 effort Cameosis, which peaked at number one on the US R&B Chart and featured the hit singles "Shake Your Pants" and "We're Goin' Out Tonight." By the mid 1980s, the once 13-member group was narrowed down to five key members that began to use synthesizers for an electro-funk sound. With its stripped down lineup, Cameo released a string of successful albums including two certified gold efforts and and its 1986 platinum album Word Up! Though its last studio album was released in 2004, Cameo has maintained its presence in the music industry by working with acts such as Outkast.
