Originally performed in 1879, Siegfried is the third opera in Richard Wagner's four-part series, The Ring of the Nibelung. Inspired by the legendary hero Sigurd of Scandinavian mythology, the opera follows the coming-of-age story of a young, fearless but slightly witless half-mortal, half-god who was orphaned and raised by a scheming drawf. As Siegfriend begins to wonder who his real parents are, tensions between him and his adopted father grow as he becomes determined to find out who he is and where he came from.
