Based on the 1972 Jamaican crime film The Harder They Come, originally starring Jimmy Cliff, the film's original director Perry Henzell brought the story to the stage more than 30 years later. This innovative reggae musical follows the life of Ivanhoe Martin, a young Jamaican man who finds a job as a reggae singer. He falls into a life of crime and violence, beginning to sell marijuana upon moving to Kingston. The show has been touted as a finely realized holistic stage adaptation, the first black Caribbean musicals to ever premiere in the UK.
