Beyond the Pale is a Canadian world/roots fusion band based in Toronto. Their music is a fusion of klezmer, Balkan, and Romanian music with contemporary and North American styles like bluegrass, jazz, reggae, funk, and classical chamber music. Known for their unique songcraft, virtuosic musicianship, meticulous dynamics, and exhilarating live performances, Beyond the Pale is regarded as one of Canada's most accomplished and innovative acoustic ensembles. Their sound, often compared to "New Acoustic Music" and David Grisman's "Dawg" music, is infused with an East European accent. Formed in 1998, the band has released several albums, including "Routes" (2001), "Consensus" (2004), "Postcards" (2009), and "Ruckus" (2017), earning critical acclaim and awards along the way. Their music draws inspiration from the Eastern-European Jewish Pale of Settlement, showcasing their rich and diverse musical influences.
