Working his way up the comedy circuit via viral videos and collaborations with fellow up-and-coming stand-up performers, Aziz Ansari is now known best for his roles in popular films and television shows. The South Carolina-born comedian started in stand-up in the early-2000s, after moving to New York City to pursue a marketing degree. Frequent appearances at legendary comedy clubs such as the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre helped establish his credibility, and by 2005, he began collaborating with like-minded comedians, Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel. The trio landed a contract with MTV in 2007 for a two season run of their show Human Giant, which mixed madcap absurdist humor with traditional sketch comedy. Since the show's end, Ansari has branched out to work on several other projects, including hosting the MTV Movie Awards, writing screenplays and starring as a regular character on NBC's hit program, Parks and Recreation.
