Elaine Paige is an English singer and actress from London who rose to fame for her work in musical theater. After making her West End debut in the 1968 production of Hair, she built an impressive resume with roles in musicals such as Grease, The Boyfriend and Jesus Christ Superstar. Paige found her breakthrough role in 1978 when she was chosen to play Eva Perón in the original production of Evita. The character earned her the Laurence Oliver Award for Performance of the Year in a Musical and brought her to the attention of the broader world of entertainment. She went on to originate the role of Grizabella in Cats, spawning the hit song "Memory", and eventually made her critically acclaimed Broadway debut in 1996 as the lead in Sunset Boulevard, solidifying herself as a world-renowned thespian.
