Assemblage 23 is the electronic music project of Seattle-based artist Tom Shear. After making synthpop and post-punk music as Man On A Stage or as a musician in other bands, Shear turned to industrial music to combine preferred electronic sounds with darker and more aggressive tones and began performing under the name Assemblage 23. The project was his first to attract interest from labels, and he finally signed with Gashed! to release his full-length debut Contempt, in 1999. Assemblage 23 became popular in the EDM scene by the mid 2000s and released its seventh album Bruise, in 2012.
