Eric Benét is a neo soul singer and actor from Milwaukee, Wisconsin who got his start in his teens when he formed a vocal group called Benet, along with his sister and cousin. The band released a self-titled album in 1992, and after only two years later, Benét found his break as a solo artist and signed a deal with Warner Bros. Records. He dropped his solo debut, an LP titled True to Myself, in 1996 and earned critical acclaim with his R&B-infused soul sound. He followed the record up with 1999's A Day in the Life, another commercial hit, before venturing into the realm of film and making his big screen debut in 2001 along side Mariah Carey in Glitter. Benét has since continued to perform and release new material such as his sixth studio album, The One.
