StringerBessant is a folk duo consisting of Gary Stringer and Jack Bessant. Both members were previously part of the successful nineties Brit-rock band, Reef. The duo released their debut album, "Yard," in 2010 under Xtra Mile Recordings, produced by Bruno Ellingham, known for his work with artists such as KT Tunstall, Merz, and Delphic. "Yard" features a mix of earthy vocals, folk-rooted acoustic guitars, and blues-indebted songs. The album showcases StringerBessant's unique vocal harmonies, with both members sharing and swapping vocal and guitar parts on several tracks to sublime effect. The performances on the album are stripped down, soulful, and melancholy, breathing life into the gentle yet dynamic songs. The duo's sound harks back to a bygone era, where electric melodies swarmed across simple rhythmic accompaniment, and emotive words and singing evoked an ambience, a world away from anything the two men have previously done.
