It's called a monome--it’s a light board matrix controller that's connected to a computer. The purpose of this musical instrument is to create a myriad of sampled instrumental sounds--a collage of sounds if you will. While this instrument is considered by many to be a slightly abstract music tool, the Los Angles-based electronic maestro Daedelus uses the monome to its full advantage. Dressing in Victorian-era clothing during his live performances, Daedelus (or Alfred Darlington) controls the monome with theatrical hand movements that highlight the musicians affection for performance ability.
