A product of the ambitious Los Angeles and London-based multimedia collective known as Xlantic, Love in the Circus is a four-piece band that attempts to combine experimental jazz, electronic music and tried-and-true pop styles into one eclectic whole. The group was formed by Leanna Rachel, a singer/bassist whose smokey voice is always at the forefront of Love in the Circus' music. Soon, various members with backgrounds in funk, drum and bass, dubstep and rock added their unique contributions to Rachel's foundation of sultry jazz and blues. Though its electro-acoustic sound is somewhat all over the map stylistically, Love in the Circus manages to restrain its idiosyncrasies enough to offer a cohesive and fully-realized overall sound. The band's self-titled debut album was released in 2011.
