When the two members of the New York-based group Suicide started making music in the early 1970s, they were doing things that had never been done before, inadvertently laying the framework for a substantial amount of modern electronic and rock music. Paring early synthesizers and primitive drum machines with jarring vocals, Suicide made music that was electronic in nature yet punk rock in spirit. Though the band has never achieved widespread popularity, many ardent music followers consider the group to be one of the more seminal acts to emerge from the 1970s.
