Although she was born and raised in Vancouver, Julia Kent moved to the United States for college, where she studied cello at Indiana University. After graduating, she lived in New York City, where she played in a variety of popular indie and art rock projects, including the goth-tinged cello ensemble Rasputina and the haunting chamber pop group Antony and the Johnsons. As a solo artist, Kent performs intricate and often dark sounding compositions that rely heavily on a loop station that allows her to slowly build her songs, layering part after part one top of one another. She released her debut solo LP, Delay, in 2007.
