Dutch Uncles is an indie pop band from Manchester, England that is becoming more and more known for marrying the tenets of progressive rock--particularly the genre's use of irregular time signatures--with the structures of contemporary pop music. Like most similar bands, the members of Dutch Uncles originally got together in college, ultimately settling upon the band's current name and a permanent line-up once school was behind them in 2008. Dutch Uncles released its eponymous debut album in Germany to some success, which in turn graced the band with the confidence necessary to release its UK debut album, Cadenza, shortly thereafter in 2009. The album met with an unprecedented amount of critical acclaim and has more than served to spark Dutch Uncles' career as one of the UK's more promising up-and-coming indie acts.
