It's tough to classify Anita Blay (aka CocknBullKid) as anything other than a pop singer due to the slick, glossy nature of her work. Doing so, however, somewhat diminishes the breadth of her style and approach, which both exist somewhere on the fringe of exploratory genre-hopping and more straight-forward radio pop. Raised by Ghanian parents in East London, Blay found her way to singing thanks largely to her love of some of her pop and rock heroes, including Madonna and Little Richard. Her forays into songwriting have been met with strong critical acclaim as she jumps from dark electro and dance pop to Motown and 1980s rock and roll. Adulthood, her 2011 debut album, was recorded in Paris, London and Stockholm and features guest appearances by multi-talented musician Chilly Gonzales and Peter Moren from Peter, Bjorn & John.
