Though not necessarily the first name to pop up while discussing prominent indie rock havens, New Zealand has nevertheless churned out a long-running string of influential, under the radar bands dating back to the early 1980s. Die! Die! Die! provides yet another example with its noise rock take on old school punk. Signed to Flying Nun Records, home of popular New Zealand indie rock forebears The Clean and The Frogs, the trio formed in 2003 and quickly established itself in some of the more aggressive, experimental punk circles throughout the country. By 2005, Die! Die! Die! was already recording its debut album with in-demand indie rock producer Steve Albini, whose gritty and raw trademark style framed the band's music in appropriate fashion. Within its first five years together, the trio managed to score tour dates with some of indie and punk rock's royalty, including Wire, The Pixies and Slint.
