Born and raised in Austin, Minnesota, a small town most notable for producing most of the world's Spam, Charlie Parr definitely gives the impression that he is from a country town a little off the beaten path. The singer/songwriter plays a resonator guitar, open-backed banjo and 12-string guitar in a style akin to old Piedmont blues. His raspy vocals croon both old gospels and new material to an equally powerful effect. Since first releasing his music in 2002, Parr has developed a strong following in Australia and New Zealand after being featured in a prominent television ad for Vodaphone. Rather procreative, Parr consistently released albums and tours fairly regularly.
