Broken Social Scene

Broken Social Scene boasts as many as nineteen members at a time. Formed in 1999 by Canadians Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning, this Canadian indie-alt band is characterized by soft whispery vocals and large-scale ensemble instrumentals. Their sound is very layered, so many members allows for a multitude of styles and sounds to come together and the band often features instruments from all four classes of instruments strings, percussion, woodwinds and brass. Their composition can be chaotic at times, but usually carries a calm, ambient and subdued quality as well.
