Spencer Smith and Ryan Ross, the two members of Las Vegas emo pop duo Panic! at the Disco, found themselves in the national spotlight only a matter of months after graduating high school. Unsurprisingly then, the music the two create is heavy on angsty teenage catharsis reached via standard pulls from the worlds of punk and glossy indie rock. The band broke out in 2006, when its single, "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" helped pave the way for MTV airplay and Billboard charting. While there's certainly no shortage of young bands looking to create anthemic blends of post-punk style guitars and testosterone-fueled rhythms, Panic! at the Disco has managed to successfully join the ranks of popular contemporaries such as Fallout Boy and Paramore, thanks in part to a sense of showy theatricality in its music and style, as well as a knack for creatively wry lyrics.
