Blending elements of modern American jazz with the sounds of his native home of Cuba, Gonzalo Rubalcaba is an extremely talented and highly influential jazz pianist. As a boy in Cuba, Rubalcaba managed to track down recordings of important 20th Century American jazz artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker and Thelonius Monk. These recordings would help set him down a musical path that would eventually lead to a prolific and award-winning career. Rubalcaba's most impressive trait is undoubtedly his dexterity, as he is able to solo across the keys at manic paces that are nothing short of amazing to watch. Furthermore, when's he not performing solo, Rubalcaba enlists top-notch accompanying drummers, bass players and horn players to perform with him, adding equally frenetic and interesting arrangements to his mishmash of Latin rhythms and free-form post-bop styles.
