After meeting in a Native American science class at San Francisco State in 2005, Jon Porras and Evan Caminiti--both formerly guitarists for metal bands--began employing their backgrounds to create avant-garde drone sonic material equally influenced by Native American culture and San Francisco psychedelic music. The resulting starkly ominous soundscapes have sometimes been referred to as desert drone and have won the band a fan base in the US and across the pond in the UK, where Barn Owl performs regularly.
