Eddie From Ohio doesn't come from Ohio and certainly isn't a one man act. Instead, the name represents a four-piece acoustic folk rock band from Northern Virginia. Formed in 1991, Eddie From Ohio plays deeply soulful folk music full of sometimes rollicking, sometimes sparse arrangements that are prone to band members stomping or clapping along onstage. Lead singer Julie Murphy Wells uses her rich, gospel-influenced voice to great effect, at times carrying the songs with little to no accompaniment. In 2005, Wells was diagnosed with breast cancer and the band went on indefinite hiatus while she underwent treatment. Eventually recovering and receiving a clean bill of health, Wells and the rest of Eddie From Ohio have picked up right where they left off.
