Philadelphia producer and DJ Starkey is one of the earliest American dubstep producers to make a name for themselves in London and around the world. Starkey is known in particular for his self-described "street bass" sound, which draws on grime and hip-hop as major influences. Starkey also has created a fictional cartoon character for himself named "Starkbot," which often appears in album art or part of a larger context of space adventures Starkey attempts to re-create with his music. His album Space Traitor Volume 1 came out on Civil Music in 2010.
