Wolfheart largely began as a one-man band initiated by Tuomas Saukkonen, a well-established figure in the world of Scandinavian metal. In a stunning move, Saukkonen laid all his existing projects to rest in 2013 and began to explore a new sound through Wolfheart. With the release of Winterborn, Saukkonen had laid the roots of a new genre of music. With the addition of Mika Lammassaari, Lauri Silvonen, and Joonas Kauppinen to Wolfheart's lineup, the band released its sophomore album Shadow World in 2015. As the band began to gather momentum, they took to the stage, touring the world and wowing audiences with their unique style. In 2020, Wolfheart released their fifth album Wolves of Karelia, showcasing a style of music that they call Winter Metal.
