Formed in 2009 by four fans of punk and electronica, Pop. 1280 acted as an outlet that combined the two genres into a modern take on cyberpunk. Taking its name from the 1964 crime novel by Jim Thompson, the band incorporates fittingly dark themes into its music, utilizing old synthesizers, distorted guitar and bizarre samples to create a futuristic sound. The New York-based group has developed a following in its home city and as Pop. 1280 continues to be named as one of the bands progressing the punk genre, it will undoubtedly find fans far beyond New York state lines.
