The Black Dahlia Murder is a five-piece heavy metal group from Waterford, Michigan. Taking its name from the famous unsolved murder of Elizabeth Short (a.k.a. the Black Dahlia) in 1947, the band came together in 2001 with the goal of creating a dark blend of metal-core and melodic death metal. Lead singer Trevor Strnad possesses an intensely guttural vocal presence that lays atop the frenetic riffing and double bass drum tempos of his band mates. As far as underground melodic death metal projects go, The Black Dahlia Murder is among the most successful. The band has hit the Billboard 200 album chart four times in a row, peaking as high as #31 with its 2011 album, Ritual.
