Some bands are a huge success during the formative years or their existence, others struggle for a little bit before they receive accolades and a dutiful fan base. The Australian alternative rock band Gyroscope undoubtedly falls into this latter category. Formed in 1997, during one of the peak years of the pop punk/skate punk scene, Gyroscope initially had a difficult time finding folks who were interested in the characteristic style of rock music the group creates. The band kicked around its hometown, Perth, for a few years, playing dodgy venues and honing it's musical approach, until it scraped together enough money to record an EP. This release didn't accrue much notice, but the members of Gyroscope had a good amount of ambition and they all decided to keep following their dream of rock star fame. That goal wouldn't come fully realized until 2008 when the band released Breed Obsession - an LP that proceeded to peak at the #1 spot on the Australian music charts. While Gyroscope's tepidity has caused some to disregard the band's music, a good amount of people still find musical worth in the group's songs and consider the four-piece alt-rock outfit to be the pinnacle of musical fortitude.
