The Vaccines is a four-piece indie rock outfit that was formed in 2010 by lead vocalist Justin Young and lead guitarist Freddie Cowan. After completing its lineup with bassist Arni Hjörvar and drummer Pete Robertson, the band began to package its reverberating, guitar-driven sound in short, quick-fire songs. The Vaccines first captured an audience on YouTube with its demo "If You Wanna," which garnered critical acclaim from both independent and mainstream music sources for its fresh indie rock aesthetic. Less than a year after forming, the group signed a record deal with Columbia Records and released its debut album, What Did You Expect from the Vaccines? Although the band had to cancel several tours in support of the record due to Young's reoccurring vocal chord problems, the album catapulted The Vaccines onto the world stage and set a new precedent for guitar music.
