Dividing his time between San Francisco and Los Angeles, DJ and producer Henry Laufer, better known as Shlohmo, might be barely out of his teenage years, but has already accomplished more than most DJs wizened by many more years than the young California native. A prominent fixture on the LA/SF Low End Theory scene--most notably home to Daedelus and Flying Lotus--Shlohmo creates fairly minimalist soundscapes laced with dubstep wonk, bouncy techno beats and dark ambient noise. Putting out a steady slew of releases, many of them on the record label he co-founded while still in high school, Shlohmo primarily drops original material, but occasionally remixes other underground electo artists or more mainstream hip-hop emcees. With fans across the US and even in the UK, due to his appearances on BBC 1, Shlohmo has defined himself as another one of Low End Theory's rising stars.
